Our Understanding of the Project’s Scope

VI Tree understanding of the project’s scope of services is to provide Tree Services to the City on public land and boulevards, other than City Parks, on an as, when required basis, for the following:

  • • Removal of Tree(s)
  • • Tree Pruning
  • • Stump Grinding
  • • Integrated Pest Management and Control
  • • Tree Risk Assessment Reports
  • • And any other service, we can assist with

Our experienced crew has worked with most communities and regional districts on Vancouver Island. Their work has encompassed simple and complex arborist services including after hours and emergency work.

We follow the ANSI (2133.1 – Aboricultural Practices), ISA, BC Hydro, ISO 9001 and WorkSafe standards for tree and electrical hazards in the preparation for and the performance of our work. Additionally, we are guided by our Occupational Health and Safety Manual (OHS) that provides for guidelines in the performance of all aspects of our work environment.

When stump grinding or creating any impact to the ground, we will call BC ONE (1-800-474-6886).

We follow all federal laws surrounding wildlife protection.

With over 20 years of experience working with communities on the Island, including the City of Nanaimo, we strive to be up-to-date and comply with all applicable bylaws and regulations and specifically, Nanaimo’s Bylaw 7126.

Our working hours are from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. After hours, weekend and emergency work is also available.

Our Wildlife Protect program provides for the following:

  • • Prior to commencement of any work in the vicinity of any tree, each tree shall be visually surveyed, from all sides, for the sole purpose of detecting the presence of bird’s nests or wildlife of any type. If a nest is found and is determined to be active, there shall be no work of any type in the tree in which the nest is found without the verbal or written permissions of the City designate or designated representative. At no time shall any nest or wildlife be removed from its location

Upon encountering any nest or wildlife, our crews will:

  • • STOP work immediately
  • • Call their Supervisor
  • • The Supervisor will contact the City and inform them
  • • The Supervisor will await the response and reschedule work crew once the situation has been mitigated

In the event that wildlife is accidently displaced and needs assistance, the VI Tree shall notify the City’s Animal Control service and/or the nearest appropriate animal rescue facility.
